Gear Review: Bike Rack: Saris Bones 3

I wanna just give a quick review of the removable bike rack I have been using now for over a year. I purchased a Saris Bones 3 a while ago and still love this thing. I was a little hesitant at first from hearing some reviews warning about stripping the plastic thumb screws that tighten the Arms down, but well over 30+ uses and mine are still holding strong. I want to be honest and tell you all that I originally purchased a Thule model and after getting it home and mounting it to my vehicle( a 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport) I was not happy with it. It may work for some, but on my particular vehicle a bar was hitting my rear window wiper blade.

In full disclosure, I don’t think I could put 3 full suspension mountain bikes on the Saris Bones 3 model. It is just kinda difficult getting a bike with rear suspension to go all the way to the back bike mount. I have successfully had 2 full suspension All Mountain model bikes on it with it not being too difficult to get them on. If you had 3 hard tails, I’m sure it would be easier or at least a mix of the two types of bikes.

I have driven my car on winding mountain roads and at high speeds on the freeway and never have been worried about the bike rack failing. It is also very quick to attach once you have done it once. It takes me maybe 2 to 3 minutes to mount it on my car now. I would no doubt recommend this rack to anyone and would buy another if someone were to steal it while I was out on a trail… yes I leave it on the vehicle when I park and go ride.!
